The Textile Arts Council is delighted to announce that, on April 9 and 10, 2022, renowned Indonesian batik artists Agus Ismoyo and Nia Fliam of the Brahma Tirta Sari Studio in Yogyakarta will once again conduct a batik and dyeing workshop at the Tracing Patterns Foundation, Berkeley.

This workshop will be held over two days this time, so the participants can experiment with two different colors: indigo blue and tinggi brown.

In addition to the technical aspect of batik, the instructors will also introduce the spiritual and intangible quality of the medium that fuels their creativity. They will share how they explore this creative process through movements and experimentations with different natural elements.

When: 10am-4pm Saturday and Sunday, with a 1-hour break for lunch.

What to bring: Paper and pencil for sketching; cloth to cover your lap, or apron to protect against wax spills; and rubber gloves.

Materials fee: A separate $50 materials fee is required from each participant. The fee should be paid directly to the instructors on the first day of the workshop. The fee will cover the costs of all fabric, dyes and other supplies.
